Youth Basketball Facility to be Built in Chino Hills

A 31,963 square foot basketball / youth training facility will be build in Chino Hills at the Gordon Ranch Marketplace on Chino Hills Parkways and Eucalyptus Avenue in the former Ralph's grocery store.

"This is a great concept." Chairman of the board of Chino Hills' planning committee Stephen Romero said. "Our recreation department can only do so much and there is a big demand for additional programs."

Enoch Kwok, the man who proposed the venture, is a 10 year resident of Chino Hills and is proposing 2 full sized basketball courts, observation rooms, a fitness room, and a children's recreation area with soft play equipment all within the facilities walls.

The training facility will operate from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week, and the children’s recreation area will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

The children’s area will be available to rent for birthday parties. The basketball facility and children’s recreation area are two separate business ventures, Mr. Kwok said. The observation rooms will allow parents to watch their children in the recreation area or on the basketball courts. League and tournament games will be held in the basketball facility on weekends for a total of six hours each day. Bleachers will not be built because of a lack of space but chair seating will be placed around the edges, he said.

The building will eliminate 18 tenant suites but six tenant suites will remain along the front of the anchor space allowing for four retail businesses and two restaurants.
